Full Job Description
To support autistic adults who do not have a learning disability in Northumberland. Provide in person low level preventative support to support the emotional wellbeing of the individual and to prevent them from going into crisis. To work with other services, providers, and professionals where appropriate supporting the individual to have a voice and access any other services they may need. Deliver our self-awareness and understanding course Me, Myself & Autism in person. Currently in Ashington and Cramlington. You may also be asked to deliver the course online. You will work across various venues/locations in Northumberland. There will be some home-working.
About Autism In Mind
We are a solution focused growing organisation, providing psychoeducation and low-level preventative support to autistic adults who do not have a learning disability.
AIM provides support across Northumberland, South Tyneside, and Sunderland.
Our Northumberland service is peripatetic, and we operate from various venues. We offer a range of services, including the provision of our autism specific self-awareness and understanding course, Me, Myself & Autism course.

About the role
Through the delivery of preventative support, you will be working closely with autistic people across Northumberland. This may be in person, virtually or by phone. The support you will provide will wrap around the individual, supporting their emotional and physical wellbeing.
You will do this by:
Working closely with the person and building trust.
Listening to clients and validating their experiences.
Helping clients to access any additional support or services that they need.
Supporting clients to voice their needs and to ask for any reasonable adjustments they may need in accessing other services or organisations.
Working in a person-centred way which promotes autonomy.
Me, Myself & Autism
Through the delivery of our Me, Myself & Autism course you will support autistic adults to have a better understanding of their autism, what it means for them, and what they can do to support their own emotional and physical wellbeing.
You will do this by:
Organising and facilitating the 12-week course ensuring that all participants feel included and valued.
Building relationships with the participants during the course.
Encouraging the participants to speak about their autism and how it impacts them.
Supporting participants to complete client goals, both pre and post course, to identify personal targets are met, and commissioning obligations are fulfilled. Provide post-course support to those participants who have not met their goals during the course.
Identify and address low-level support needs. Engaging with course participants about their needs and encouraging inhouse support/appropriate referrals to partner community services.
Delivering a families and friends session at the end of each course to provide friends and families with a greater understanding of autism and how to support their person.
Gathering course feedback for business improvement commissioning purposes.
Raising safeguarding concerns as necessary.
Supporting neurodivergent colleagues in their own facilitating roles.
Main Responsibilities
Promote the emotional and physical wellbeing of autistic adults.
Understand the importance of parity of esteem in healthcare.
Get to know and build trust with the people who access our service.
Support them to understand their autism and what it means to them.
Support them to identify their own emotional and physical healthcare needs.
Support them to find their voice and be their own self advocate.
Provide low level preventative support to those who need it.
Signpost and support individuals to access additional help when necessary.
Support other services to have a better understanding of autism and how to support autistic need.
Maintain an active caseload. Manage risk proactively. Keep accurate records using our CRM software.
Maintain confidentiality for our clients.
Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of the service, including the collection of data and case studies.
Promote our offer to stakeholders and build relationships with key individuals and services for the benefit of the people we support.
Essential:
· A keen interest in working with and supporting autistic individuals
· A willingness to be intensively trained to develop a good overall understanding about autism and neurodiversity
· An ability to empathise with autistic adults and validate their experiences
· A calm and helpful nature with a high degree of emotional intelligence
· An ability to change the way in which you work to accommodate the needs of the individual
· Be creative in the way in which you work towards a solution focused outcome for autistic adults
· Confident communication skills that can be adapted to meet the needs of the autistic person
· A good understanding of the health and wellbeing issues affecting vulnerable and socially isolated people – particularly autistic people
· The ability to work alone as well as being an active team member
· The ability to be self-motivated and take the initiative
· Good organisational skills, with an ability to prioritise work and deliver agreed objectives quickly and effectively
· IT literacy, be confident using Microsoft Office, CRM systems and interactive platforms like Microsoft Teams
· An understanding of the need for GDPR and client confidentiality
· A clear, enhanced DBS check
Desirable:
· Experience of working with autistic adults who do not have a learning disability
· Knowledge of the health and social care sector in Northumberland, and of the communities and localities where our services are delivered
· Hold a Driving Licence and own transport
· An understanding of co-production and experience in using the skills needed to work in co-production with groups of people
· An ability and confidence working with professionals outside of Autism in Mind
· Be comfortable attending meetings and partnership boards if required to do so
· A willingness to promote the work carried out by Autism in Mind
